Galvanised Culverts

ZINGA Victoria Map

Summary

Under road galvanised steel culverts are utilised frequently throughout Australia as a cost effective alternative to bridges, enabling under road water flows.

Zinga provides galvanising-like performance when used as a maintenance coating on existing culverts. The life of the culverts can be extended to up to 30 years.

The culverts are prepared by low pressure water washing (3000psi) including the use of ChlorRid to assist in removing contaminants. The corroded areas are then spot abrasive blasted. Two coats of Zinga Liquid Galvanising is applied at 60 microns per coat by either brush, spray or roller.

With the significant extension to service life of the culverts, the Zinga system is now the preferred solution for maintenanceand is specified by VicRoads.

Galvanised Bypass Culverts

Summary

Culverts were installed beneath a new bypass in Bangor-On-Dee, Wales to alleviate severe flooding conditions however heavily nitrated water from adjacent farms was causing the HDG culverts to rust at an accelerated rate. As a results, the culverts were heavily pitted and in danger of perforation.

ZINGA was selected to coat the culverts before they reached a state of disrepair. To prepare the surface, any soil was brushed out before they were blasted to remove all mud and salts. Two 70 µm DFT coats of ZINGA was then applied to each culvert.

The nitrates in the water cause the culverts to rust quickly.
